How to Translate Your Blog Title and Description Using qTranslate Plugin

Since qTranslate plugin introduced its new feature about QuickTags, we can now translate our field content to another languages so easily. Simply just add this language tag [:en] for English translation at the beginning of your English field  content, and also add another language tag at the beginning of your field content that contains of the words or sentences in your language. At this moment, I will show you how to translate the blog title and description by adding the tags related to the languages that I use (English and Indonesian).

  1. Go to your admin panel, then click on Settings -> General
  2. At the Blog Title directive, add the language tag. For example, your Blog Title is: My First Website. Change it become:
    [:en]My First Website[:id]Situs Pertamaku
  3. At the Tagline directive, also add the language tag. For example, your Tagline is: This is my first website. Change it become:
    [:en]This is my first website[:id]Ini situs pertamaku
  4. Save your settings by click on Save Changes button at the bottom of the page.

Now, when you choose English as the current language from your language selector, then it will show you as:

My First Website
This is my first website

and when you switch its language become Indonesian language, it will show you as:

Situs Pertamaku
Ini situs pertamaku

    The title of the items should be less than 100 characters while the description should be below 500. Blog Plugin

    Hi Blog Plugin. Thanks for your comment. Yup. Although this blog title and description being saved in the certain column which has the field type as LongText and there is no limitation for the amount of characters, I am definitely agree with you. Even IMHO, the blog title should be less than 50 characters, while the description should be below 100 characters. Cheers! :-)

    Mau tanya dong, setelah kita instal qtranslate, apakah kita harus definisikan bahasa blog kita, yaitu dg
    define (‘WPLANG’, ‘id_ID’); di wp-config

    saya sudah coba instal qtranslate, dan langsung saya test di homepage sy, tapi tetap pakai bahasa indonesia.

    Bisa tolong pemula qtranslate ini… ;(

    Thanx b4

    @Wely KCB

    Bisa ya, bisa tidak. Anda tidak harus mendefinisikan id_ID di file wp-config. Tergantung bahasa default untuk blog Anda apa. Contohnya, blog saya ini menggunakan bahasa default English, maka wp-config saya biarkan begitu saja tanpa diset secara eksplisit. Tapi jika blog Anda menggunakan bahasa Indonesia, maka file wp-config tadi perlu Anda sesuaikan.

    Pastikan di panel admin untuk qTranslate-nya, bahasa yang tidak Anda gunakan dihapus saja. Contoh, jika Anda hanya menggunakan English dan Indonesian, maka selain kedua bahasa tadi yang terdapat di bagian “Languages” dihapus. Pastikan juga ketika Anda membuat artikel, Anda sudah menterjemahkan ke bahasa lain yang Anda gunakan.

    Looks like I’m the only one who can’t make it work. Header just shows all these tags [:lv] etc.

    Maybe you have any ideas why? Would really appreciate any help.

    Also wonder how did you manage to translate widgets’ headers?

    Thanks in advance.

    Dan cara setting untuk di postingan itu gmana?

    @Anastasia

    Have you removed the unused languages?

    To answer the next question, you can translate the widget’s header with the same way you did with the previous one, as long as the title is a dynamic (not static) text.

    @Joe

    Pertama, definisikan dulu bahasa yang akan digunakan dari halaman setting qTranslate di panel admin. Selanjutnya, di editor artikel akan muncul tab baru sebanyak jumlah bahasa yang didefinisikan di awal. Contoh, jika hanya 2 diset English (default) dan Indonesia, maka akan muncul dua tab baru yang bernama “English” dan “Indonesia”.

    Kedua, selanjutnya Anda bisa membuat artikel, masing-masing untuk bahasa tadi. Judul dan isi artikel untuk kedua bahasa tersebut bisa dibuat sesuai dengan bahasa yang bertalian, sementara URL atau permalink untuk artikel tersebut sama, dan hanya dibedakan dengan parameter bahasanya saja. Contoh: untuk yg bahasa Indonesia akan ada parameter “id”, sedangkan yang default (dalam contoh ini English) tidak ada parameter tambahan di permalink-nya.

    Semoga dapat membantu.
